What does the History Corps do?
Since the project's inception, History Corps team members and our partners have conducted dozens of interviews with University of Iowa faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and community members. Our goal has been to hear how the humanities effect everyday life. These interviews chart individual University of Iowa scholars' careers and research projects, document volunteer initiatives like the National History Day project, and discuss various community engagement efforts that have connected University of Iowa academics to various Iowa communities. In January 2013, History Corps collaborated with a graduate seminar on public history to collect oral history interviews focused on documenting local recollections of the devastating 2008 flood. These interviews represent only a small portion of what History Corps could become, and we look forward to inviting new perspectives and stories as time goes on.
